  1. Thanks to Lorna, we now have his birthplace and the name of his parents. There also seems to be more details on the offspring of his second marriage.I believe their marriage was in 1870 so given the household members in the ’81 census, I suspect that Frederick, Spencer, Steel and Gray may have been from Julia’s previous marriage and only Lancelot, Rowena, Mary and Alexander are John’s offspring. It is interesting to see my father’s middle name appear, Spencer, as I always wondered where this came from, but could it also suggest that Spencer was his grandfather?
